Clark and Karen | Continuation Thread

The problem with organized crime was that when a leader fell, all it did was create a power vacuum. Criminals were people as much as anyone else, and amongst them were people who wanted to climb to the top and others that desperately wanted someone to tell them what to do and how to succeed.

With the damage done by the Battle of New York and the 'war' that had been waged between the Devil of Hell's Kitchen and the now-unmasked Wilton Fisk, the field had been left ripe for the picking in more than one way and the cream of the crop of the organized crime syndicates had noticed.

Bruno Mannheim didn't even try to play the philanthropist. No, he was there for one reason and one reason only: easy pickings. And that was why it was getting increasingly dangerous out there for the uniformed crime fighters... and their non-uniformed vigilante assistants. Criminals with guns that reminded them more of the kind of weapons the Chitauri had brought with them. Criminals with allies in other towns, alibis in other places. Nasty on all levels.

Which was why Clark came home that night and headed for his laptop instead of his favorite book. It seemed this journalist was going to have some work cut out for him after all here in New York.

Karen listens intently, and she barely moves, just letting him play with her hand a bit.

His words are wise, and it makes sense, but it doesn't change what she's done. Can't change what she's done, and how it could effect other people. Swallowing thickly, she tries to swallow the lump in her throat. "I hear you," is all she said.

She just couldn't deal with how he would look at her when he found out that she killed someone, and why, and how. It may seem like a good theory, but if felt like too hard a practice.

Karen wraps herself up against him, and sighs as she takes in a deep breath of him. Would he still hold her like this if he knew what she'd done? Possibly not. It made her shiver deeply. Pushing a hand into his hair, burying her face in the crook of his neck.

The next words slipped out of her mouth, "I think I love you," she said quietly.

Thankfully, they were off the subject of her, and onto something more positive, when he said he loved her too, she hugged him more deeply, pulling back to press a kiss to him lips. It slowly got a little hungrier, but she didn't push it.

She rubbed her hands through his hair as they kissed, and she just relished in being with him. Calming down considerably.

Karen fell in against him with a sigh, enjoying the kiss that he was giving to her, it made her hum against his mouth. When she needed to breath, and pulled back, she was smiling slightly.

"I really enjoy kissing you, Clark," she said in a sweet, but sad voice. The concerns of those tenants she told him about still on her mind. Yet, she didn't want it to interrupt things.

"Do I need you, no. I mean, I do, but not right now. Go, do what you do. I'll be okay," she said resolutely.

Smiling toward him, she patted his arm, and moved to slide out of his lap.

When his arms didn't drop, Karen moved back to sit back in his lap.

He tells her that he'll finish the article later, and she nods, and smiles. "Okay, I mean, I don't want to impose is all," she said warmly.

She resettled into his lap, and leaned against him.

"Thank you," she whispered toward him, leaning in to the kiss to her hair. She curled up, and tried to look him over. Unsure where to take this whole evening? Thankful that he isn't leaving just now.

"You want to cook? I can help you with that, but do you have to do it right this second?" She asked gently, her hand absently playing with the hair at the back of his neck. Her head was leaning against his own a little bit.

"Oh," she said a bit surprised, then she smiled. "Thank you," she offered sweetly.

"Well, to be honest, I bought the ingredients to make some Thai Peanut sauce for some chicken, and some salad stuff, and some mandarins to put in the salad. How does that sound to you?"

"Okay, so let's do this," she said warmly. Kissing his cheek in return, she went to stand. "I'll help, if you are okay with that?"

"No worries, Clark, honey--I bought you some extra tofu just in case. I got the soft kind, and the firm kind so you had some options," she said with a smile.

She leaned down, hands on either side of his head on the couch, so she could kiss his lips.

"I know, I remembered. So, I don't mind helping you make one of each. I can work one pan, you can work the other. Or you can cook, and I can chop, and assist? You let me know how you'd like to work this, and I am your man," she said with a firm nod of her head, but there was a genuine smile on her face.

"Okeydokey, you are the kitchen boss, I just work here," she teased, giving his ass a light pat. Even though she seemed happy, it was more like putting on a brave face. "It works for me, and probably works for some chickens we just saved through the use of tofu," she tried to joke a bit, even if it was a bit flat.
